Dr. O'Brien received his graduate degree in education from Emory University and undergraduate degree from Brown University. He is the author of a book titled, The Politics of Race and Schooling: Public Education in Georgia, 1900-1961. prior to joining the OSU Mansfield Teaching and Learning faculty, he was an associate professor at Millersville University in PA.
Lynn Johnson, Ph.D.

Dr. Johnson has been on the Education faculty since 1980. During his years at Ohio State he has authored 19 publications, co-developed and produced a series of 11 videotapes for the Ohio Department of Education, and made over 60 presentations at the international, national and regional levels. He has been the principal or co-investigator for 16 research and/or training grants that total over $2,000,000. He has been honored three times with the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award and once with the Excellence in Scholarship Award.
Barbara Lehman, Ed.D.

Dr. Lehman received her doctorate at the University of Virginia and has been at the Mansfield campus since 1986. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on children's literature and literacy education. Her research is in child-centered literary criticism, international children's literature, and literature-based practices in elementary and middle school classrooms. She has co-edited a book on Teaching with Children's Books: Paths to Literature-based Instruction, co-authored a book on Global Perspectives in Children's Literature, and is co-editor of Bookbird: A Journal of International Children's Literature. She received the Excellence in Scholarship award (1995) and the Ohioana James P. Barry award for Editorial Excellence (2000). Recently a Fulbright Scholar at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa.

Terri Teal Bucci, Ph.D.

Dr. Bucci received her doctorate from The Ohio State University's School of Teaching and Learning. She has 14 years of classroom teaching experience in both middle and high school levels and is certified to teach in both elementary and secondary schools. She teaches courses in mathematics methods, assessment, technology and CGI (cognitively guided instruction) in the elementary schools. Her research interests include mathematics education, technology education, problem posing, teacher beliefs/paradigm pedagogy.
Jeane Copenhaver-Johnson , Ph.D.

Dr. Copenhaver is a former middle school teacher who received her doctorate from the University of Florida. She currently teaches courses in literacy, multicultural education, language acquisition, and classroom based research and conducts research on reader response, multicultural education, multiage education, and teacher education. She taught literacy and diversity courses at Furman University from 2001-2002 but originally joined the OSU-Mansfield Education Department in 1998. Her work has been published in Language Arts, The New Advocate, the Early Childhood Education Journal, and The Dragon Lode.
Ginny Corso, M.Ed.

Ms. Corso has been an academic counselor with the Mansfield campus since 1980. She received her graduate degree from Kent State University and undergraduate degree in elementary education from Indiana University of PA. She is certified to teach grades K-8, and grades 7-12 in math, and holds an AIDS educator certification. While employed at Kent State, NC State, and Shaw University, she conducted student and staff development programs. At OSU Mansfield, she has taught college math and freshman orientation classes and works with high school students in the OSU Academy Program.
Sheila Elcess, M.A.

Ms. Elcess earned her master's degree in elementary school administration and supervision from the University of Dayton (1987) and bachelor's degree in elementary education from OSU (1973). She taught in the public schools for 15 years. She joined the OSU Mansfield education department as a graduate teaching assistant in 1988 and assumed her present position as field placement coordinator the following year. She is also the MEd program coordinator and supervises the MEd students in all their school-based work. She teaches the undergraduate Early Experience Program seminar (FEEP), the Advanced Field Placement, and School and Society courses.
Ed Wachtel, M.A.

Mr. Wachtel has been a math & computing teacher, computer coordinator, math department head and AP Calculus grader. He teaches several math courses at OSU Mansfield. He has received several awards: Excellence in Science & Mathematics Teaching (1988), Secondary Teacher of the Year (1991) from Orange City Schools, and Outstanding Teacher of the Year (1995) from the Mansfield campus. He has made several paper presentations on math and computer education and contributed as an author in Integrated Mathematics published by McDougal, Littell and Co. in 1992.

Donna Farland, Ed.D.
Assistant Professor, Science Education

Dr. Farland earned two B.A. degrees, one in Natural Science and one in Elementary Education from Worcester State College in 1993.  Her M.ED, from Fitchburg State College is in Science Education in 1995. She received her ED. D. in Science and Mathematics Education from The University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 2003. She previously taught high school, middle school, and elementary science and considers it a great honor to be teaching the next generation of teachers. She has written and published books that inspire children to understand and appreciate scientists and their work, Her books include: Jungle Jane, It Takes Two: The Story of the Watson & Crick Team, It Takes All Kinds of Scientists and The Simple Truth about Scientists. Of particular interest to Dr. Farland is research that focuses on students’ perceptions and attitudes toward science and scientists.

Patty Hayes, M.A.
Educational Advisory Committee

Ms. Hayes obtained both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from The Ohio State University. She is currently a second grade teacher with the Lexington Local Schools, as well as the Educational Technologist and Intervention Assistance Team Chairperson for Western Elementary. She has also taught 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and Certified Ohio SchoolNet Trainer for Novice and Practioner. She has
developed and presented workshops on cooperative conferences using both HyperStudio and Power Point on the computer.
